Asked by journalists regarding the signing of a number of treaties by the Presidents of Ukraine and Russian Federation today in Kharkiv, in particular it concerned the treaty on prolongation of Russian Black Sea Fleet stay on the territory of Ukraine for 25 years, M. Tomenko declared stated that it would be impossible after the year 2017 without the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine and conduction of the national referendum.
In the course of Ternopil city visiting, M. Tomenko declared: "Of course, one should analyze documents that were signed today but such agreements should be treated only like wishes of V. Yanukovych and his team."
M. Tomenko is convinced that the decision on prolongation of Russian Black Sea Fleet stay on the territory of Ukraine is supposed to be scrutinized as "a wish of V. Yanukovych and his team and it may come true that is become a Law only after the decision of the majority of Ukrainian citizens."
At the same time, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declared that "I know Ukrainian people: people speaking Ukrainian and Russian language but when we speak on the national interests, independence of territorial integrity, Ukrainians will always fight for own interest hence I am convinced that the idea will not be uphold during the referendum."
